CARPET DESIGN AWARDS

The Carpet Design Awards at DOMOTEX, Hannover set global benchmarks for excellence in handmade carpets and rugs.

In 2014, the awards received 329 entries from designers worldwide. From these, 33 carpets were shortlisted, and 11 outstanding designs were ultimately recognized as winners.

Having my design hand-spun and handwoven in Afghanistan—a region renowned for its deep-rooted carpet-making heritage and exceptional weaving skill—was both an honour and a profound learning experience. The collaboration highlighted the richness of traditional knowledge embedded within these craft communities.

The rug remains part of my personal collection and continues to serve as a foundation for future design explorations with weaving communities across regions. I see it as a medium for ongoing dialogue—connecting designers, artisans, and cultures through material and making.

I am deeply grateful to the skilled Afghan weavers whose craftsmanship brought the final winning piece to life.
